Galliard Homes and Apsley House Capital’s first new homes go on sale

Newcomers to the Birmingham residential property scene, Galliard Homes and Apsley House Capital, are launching their first homes for sale.

Apartments at the joint venture partners’ The Timber Yard scheme in Birmingham’s Southside district go on sale on 25 October, priced from £199,000.

The development, on Pershore Street, and bounded by Hurst Street, Claybrook Street and Skinner Lane, comprises 379 studio, one, two and three bedroom apartments, plus circa 10,000 sq ft of ground floor commercial space for retail/leisure use.

Named as a tribute to the history of the area, which was known for its timber and scrap metal yards, and plywood and aluminium works, as well as a mix of stylish apartments The Timber Yard will include a range of on-site hotel-style amenities, including concierge services, a fully-equipped private residents’ gym, club lounge and cinema/screening room. Sheltered bicycle storage and secure parking for residents will also be provided.

The Timber Yard has been designed around a central landscaped garden, bordered by two residential buildings, seven and 13 storeys high respectively, which provide views across Birmingham’s skyline.

The buildings have large floor to ceiling windows, with balconies, terraces and winter gardens looking into the central courtyard.

All the apartments have an entrance hall, reception room and open plan, fully-fitted designer kitchen, with high gloss grey-silver units, reconstituted stone worktops and integrated Smeg appliances. The master bedrooms have fitted wardrobes, while the master suites in the two and three bedroom apartments have en-suite bathrooms.

The main bathrooms feature marbled floor tiles, white suites, reconstituted stone vanity unit tops, mirrored storage cupboards and heated towel rails.

Construction of the mixed-use scheme is due to start before the end of the year, with completion scheduled for 2021.

The Timber Yard is the first large-scale residential scheme for private sale to be launched in the Southside district for ten years.

Mark Evans, Knight Frank’s head of regional residential development, said: “Birmingham has gone through a marked transformation in recent years. Major blue-chip firms such as PwC, HSBC and Deutschebank have invested heavily in the city, building state-of-the-art corporate headquarters and relocating staff from London.

“Birmingham is developing into a city with an international presence, we now see buyers from across the world investing in Birmingham for all that it has to offer. Birmingham welcomed over 7,500 people migrating from London last year, more than any other city in the UK.

“As the city’s renaissance continues at speed, we anticipate this flight out of the capital to continue as people search for greater value and higher yielding residential investments.

“The launch of The Timber Yard is the latest chapter in Birmingham’s success story. Arguably the best development within the city core, the project is set to regenerate the heart of the Chinese Quarter, an area just moments’ from New Street station and the major shopping district.”

Robin Norstrom, director at Apsley House Capital, said: “Although we have been working in Birmingham for more than a year, acquiring sites and progressing these through the planning system, launching our first site to the market is a real milestone for the joint venture partnership. We now have a committed pipeline of 2,800 homes planned for Birmingham, so it feels great to get the first site away.”

David Galman, sales director at Galliard Homes, one of London’s largest residential developers, said: “For more than 25 years Galliard Homes has helped young professionals and individual investors get onto the property ladder in and around London. We’re looking forward to introducing our product to Birmingham, setting a new benchmark for quality in the city.”

The Timber Yard sales launch will take place on Thursday 25th October from 4pm-9pm and Friday 26th October from 12midday to 4pm at the Whitewall Gallery, 9 Colmore Row, Birmingham B3 2QD.
